Apple releases iOS 11.2.6 update to fix Telugu bug that causes iPhones to crash

After reports late last week of a Telugu character crashing Apple devices, the Cupertino giant has promptly responded by releasing new updates for its iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Apple Watch and Mac. iOS 11.2.6, tvOS 11.2.6, watchOS 4.2.3, and macOS 10.13.3 are now available for download. These updates fix the bad character issue that caused messaging apps like iMessage, WhatsApp, and Facebook Messenger to crash.

Last week, some iPhone users reported that a single character in Telugu was causing messaging apps to crash. The bug not only blocked access to iMessage and some other third-party apps on the iPhone, but also affected Safari and Messages on macOS and the Apple Watch. Apple had confirmed that the bug was causing its devices to crash when a Telugu character was sent to the device or typed in text editor and said that it would release updates for its products soon to address it. Apart from fixing the bug, the new iOS update also fixes an issue that caused some third-party apps to fail to connect to external accessories.

Apps like Telegram and Skype were reportedly not affected by the latest bug. Apple may have quickly responded to the bug, but there is no denying that iOS 11 has been one of the buggiest updates the company has released so far. This is not the first time a bug caused iPhones on iOS 11 to freeze. Apple previously released an update to fix a bug that could freeze your iPhone via a single link. Before that, Apple issued a significant update (iOS 11.2) just a few hours after reports of a bug that caused iPhones to crash at a particular time on December 2.
